This terrace was designed for an ex-patriate banker and his wife in Mexico City. Upon renting the apartment, the 470 sq.ft. terrace was completely bare and the couple wanted a "portable" garden, but at the same time wanted the feeling of immediate lushness and privacy. Although the plants would have to be planted in pots, they would have to grow quickly and develop abundant foliage. The specimens chosen were Bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii), Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens), African Iris (Dietes iridioides), Pink Azalea (Azalea japonica) and Sword Fern (Nephrolepis cordifolia). Weather permitting, the terrace was used both as a private resting area as well as an "al fresco" dining area.
